Hunting Smarter- Not Harder

I think I can speak for just about all of us when I say that hunting smarter is MUCH less work than hunting harder.

When I was younger I had the advantage of working hard at EVERYTHING! When I found a “new” project I worked it to death….or until I finally collapsed from exhaustion.

That’s definitely an advantage the younger fellas have. It’s funny, though. As time goes by (at the speed of light it seems), I’ve refined my techniques, my approach, and my overall attitude. I think, now that there is alot to be said for just letting things alone. Let them be what they will.

The same is true (to me) in hunting. I used to blow into a place, make a nice set up and wait for the game to get savvy so I could take my prize. Today, alot is still the same…except I focus more on the “Why”. Why are they here, why are they not, why are they not moving during a full moon….. And eventually that leads to “When”…..When are they here, when were they here, when will they be back…

All of this leads to a higher ratio of game taken/ outing. That is very satisfying to me. Between work, family, and “honey do’s”….I need to be productive when hunting. After all, it is the end result that I seek the most…..Not always a kill, but to know I could have, or I timed it right, or I out smarted the game I was hunting… That is the end result for me.

So, if you’re a younger fella (or lady) congratulations! You officially have 100 times the energy and time that most have. Enjoy it. Use it…. Don’t waste it. Be resposible, take others hunting, teach a youngster how to hunt. The reward is so much greater when you are able to share it with others. You will get back more than you expected.

Trust me…….
